After extensive renovations both pre and post earthquake Heathbrae House is open to continue offering our quality personal rest home care.

Our beautiful gardens have been maintained and are starting to take on wonderful autumn colours.

One of the most charming features about Heathbrae House (apart from the wonderful staff, home baking and family atmosphere of course!) are the glorious gardens. The mature trees, gently sloping lawns and many places to sit and take a rest create an atmosphere of tranquility around the home. We welcome you to come and visit and see for yourself.

Is Depression Inevitable in Elderly?

It seems to be a commonly held belief that “all old people get depressed” and that it’s normal and just something they just have to put up with.

This isn’t the case!

Depression is not an inevitable part of ageing and it is a mistake to assume that it is. Many older people will suffer depression alone rather than want to be seen to be a burden, or perhaps don’t recognise the symptoms of depression.

What are the casues?

Causes of depression in the elderly can include:

bereavement
loss of purpose
social isolation
health issues
loss of mobility
fears – dying, finances, health

If you are feeling depressed, or you suspect an elderly friend or relative might be it is important to seek medical help immediately.

Our older community members deserve to live happy, fulfilling lives right to the end!
